Bio-Essence Face Lifting Cream Review
- Friday, 03 February 2012
So as promised, today I will be reviewing the famous Bio-Essence Face Lifting Cream (with ATP). I was actually requested to review this product. I've always been aware that this is a fast selling product in Asia but I've never really had the desire to purchase/try this face cream I guess. But I was pretty curious on this request and was excited to try it out. I've had over a month to test this product and I think I'm ready to give my insight.
About this product
This face lifting cream is pretty famous in Asia, especially in Singapore. The reason this product is so popular is because it claims to slim down the face by reducing water retention and by lifting the contours of the face. I actually thought it sounded too good to be true. Asia has a lot of 'fad' products that just don't work as well as they claim so I guess I was skeptical. It's supposed to tighten the skintone too. Here in Hong Kong, a lot of girls are crazy over the 'V-Shape' face so this product is promoted quite a lot on billboards and bus adverts. Apparenty it's a number 1 selling product with over 1 million sales.
What it claims to do:
- Refine the skin
- Whiten complexion
- Reduce double skin
- Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
Price & where to buy
I apologise because I can't exactly remember the price. It was definitely above HK$200 which I would consider a little pricey. It contains 40g so quite a decent amount of product. I purchased mine from my local Watsons.
My first negative factor is the packaging. I would prefer it so much more if it came in a form of a pump bottle rather than a jar. It just seems more hygenic rather than dipping fingers in back and forth. I have to use a Q-tip to spoon the cream out each time which can be a hassle. The first thing that caught my attention was the smell. I can't say I care for the smell. It's pretty strong and for some reason, reminds me of baby wipes. I love the smell of Johnsons products but not the smell of baby wipes. The texture of the cream is pretty thick so I worried about it clogging my pores. It comes with a little measuring tape to allow me to measure the before and after results which was pretty cool.
Applying the cream on my face, I didn't really enjoy the experience. It was quite hard to blend into my skin because of the thickness. It also felt sticky and heavy which wasn't very comfortable. I decided to let it settle on my skin so it absorbs the product better. I also realised my face felt kind of numb as well. It's not painful, it's not uncomfortable I guess but the numb feeling was there.
After about 15 minutes, I measured my face again and was surprised to see that my facial measurement was almost a CM shorter. I was pretty impressed. Did I just lose 1cm off my face? Looking at the mirror, my face didn't look any thinner so I wondered if I measured wrong. But it was definitely 1cm shorter. However, my skin still had an uncomfortable feeling. I can't actually explain what it was but there was a slight discomfort. The cream was more absorbed into my skin but it still had the slight sticky feeling. Later on the day, perhaps about 2 hours later- I decided to measure my face again. Boom, it was back to the measurement it was before so I realised the results were temporary.
My overall experience
I used this product straight for the next couple weeks and honestly, I can say my facial measurement remained the same. However, I have managed to break out along my jaw line. Some of you guys noticed my jaw looking more congested with pimples than usual. I was almost certain it was the thickness of the cream so I stopped using it for a week. My skin started to clear up again and so I decided to give it another go and I began to break out again. So I'm not sure if this is just me being too anxious but I know I won't be using this product again. It could just be the the fact that my skin in general is very sensitive to break outs.
I was skeptical about this product and I didn't think I would be impressed. After trying this out, I can still stand by my judgement. If you're not prone to breakouts and you're looking for a thick based moisturiser that will tone and hydrate your skin, this is fine. For me, it simply works as an ordinary moisturiser (with numbing sensations). However, if your skin is prone to break outs I wouldn't really recommend this.
The biggest selling point of this product is it's ability to slim down the face. The results just aren't long lasting and as for 'lifting' wise, it does an alright job toning the face.
I don't hate the product. I guess I just don't really care for it. It has more cons than pros. I would reccomend anybody to go for 'facial massages' instead of this cream because facial massages give instant and longer lasting slimming results. To me, it's another fad product that's overhyped thanks to super marketing and advertising strategies. However, I have heard great things about it from some girlies on the Internet too. So who knows? I guess it just didn't work for me.
So out of 5 stars, I will give this product 2.5 stars.
Thank you so much for checking out this review. I feel almost guilty that most of my reviews are so/so lol. My next review will be a good one I promise ^^
Much love, Bubz xx
